Local Fare Kicks Off “Gift A Bike” Campaign

Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote, “Life is a journey, not a destination.” Local Fare Magazine is passionate about capturing joy and adventure throughout our journeys. To us, it’s often found between two handlebars.

Local Fare Magazine is honored to share that happiness with children through our Gift A Bike program, inspired by the late Jeff Embry.

In 1998, the Chattanooga restauranteur challenged the community to donate bicycles to children who would otherwise have no gifts to unwrap Christmas morning. Using his own funds and donations, Embry assembled hundreds of bicycles in his living room. His passion for enriching the lives of Chattanooga youth continued to grow deeper until his death in 2010.

Jeff Embry, our inspiration.

Despite his passing, his legacy continues to shine through those inspired by his mission.

Since 2012, Local Fare Magazine has been privileged to help purchase and build hundreds of bicycles for children in need. With help from our generous readers, we’re able to donate those bicycles to Toys for Tots and Forgotten Child Fund.

The Forgotten Child Fund, founded by Hamilton County first responders, provides gifts for more than 10,000 children each year. On Christmas Eve, Santa delivers them to some of Chattanooga’s neediest neighborhoods.

The faces of joyous children and grateful parents shine brighter than any lights twinkling across our city.

In this season of giving, we humbly ask for your support making Christmas possible. Your donation could be life-changing. Please help us make a child’s journey brighter, throughout this holiday season and beyond.

To donate, please take the following steps…

1. Choose your donation amount.

2. Write a check to “Gift A Bike,” the name of Local Fare’s charitable fund allocated to this fundraiser.

3. Mail your check to 400 E. Main Street, Suite 215, Chattanooga, TN 37408.

Your gift is tax-deductible. You will receive a tax letter from Toys for Tots and a thank-you note from Local Fare for your contribution.
