Chattanooga animal shelters are opening their doors to pets displaced by Hurricane Harvey in the Houston area. Many nearby shelters have flooded, leaving shelter staff unable to help thousands of animals in their care.
Shelters around the country, including McKamey Animal Center and Humane Educational Society, have deployed to transport animals from Texas to their shelters, which are already at full capacity. Other local shelters, like Pet Placement Center, are stepping up to house some of those pets.
While animals in our area are still the priority, both shelters are making room for the incoming pets. If you’re able to temporarily foster to help make more room, please contact them.
Both shelters are also in need of dog and cat food, fleece blankets, dog toys, newspaper, gas cards and monetary donations.
