Dr. Austin and her staff at Tri-State North Chiropractic Clinic are passionate about helping the people of Chattanooga live truly healthy lives. “My goal for patients isn’t just to get them out of pain; it’s to get them healthy again and restore function to their body so that it can heal as God designed it to do. People could be walking around pain free, but pain free doesn’t equal healthy,” says Dr. Austin. “Chiropractic is mostly known for helping neck pain, back pain and headaches, but the rest of the body is affected when we give adjustments to the spine. The nervous system controls everything in the body – every single organ,” she says.
For example, Mrs. Lana Lawrence, a patient at Tri-State Clinic North, was experiencing neck and back pain. She was also having trouble breathing. “She couldn’t get up the steps at work without getting winded,” Dr. Austin says. During the early portion of her treatment, Mrs. Lawrence’s neck and back pain improved, as did her breathing. “After two adjustments, I could breathe much better. Because of chiropractic, I have a better quality of life. Now I can play with my grandson, go to work and volunteer,” says Mrs. Lawrence.
What exactly makes Dr. Austin’s treatment so unique and effective? Getting right to the root of the problem. “We ask the question ‘why?’ all the time. We treat the subluxations (misalignments of the vertebrae) which may be the underlying cause of symptoms,” she says.
For Mrs. Lawrence, finding a natural treatment for her health concerns was important after the experience she had caring for her ill family. “I was a caregiver for both my husband and mother,” she says. “My husband was diagnosed with diabetes, congestive heart failure, hearing loss and had a five-way bi-pass! My mother was diagnosed with heart disease, diabetes and dementia, and she had extreme pain in her back.”
Through her experiences, Mrs. Lawrence realized that caring for her body in ways that would help it heal naturally, not just cover symptoms, was the path to health. “Nutrition really helped me to feel better, and it made me think that taking care of myself, eating right and exercising was my first step to a better quality of life,” she says.
Chiropractic care is the perfect solution for people like Mrs. Lawrence who are looking for a natural way to improve their health. Dr. Austin wants to get to the bottom of what is really wrong and o er long-term help and prevention. “You might have some shoulder pain, but what else is going on? What medication are you taking every day? What’s causing that pain?” she asks. “We can likely help you with that. Chiropractic treatment can help many deeper issues in the body.”
Tri-State Clinic’s mission is to help people like Mrs. Lawrence achieve true health and change their lives, as Dr. Austin feels she has been called to do, by educating the community and promoting health. “People have an option with us that’s all natural with no side effects. And, when you think about comparative costs, it’s very inexpensive health care. Our essence here is to help people live healthier, more productive lives through natural healing.”
